R.I.P. Robin Williams

Today, the world lost an amazing soul.

It started out a relatively normal day. Then, like usual, I got on Facebook and started scrolling. But to my to my devastating surprise, I read some shocking news that really rattled me. Robin Williams had died. I was crushed. I couldn't believe it. I hoped - prayed - it was another stupid Hollywood rumor going around. That he really was fine, just causing some trouble. But to my discovery, this news is true.

I didn't know how to respond. Should I be sad? Angry? All I could do was think. I was in complete shock. I mean, I didn't really know him. I shouldn't be bothered. He was just an actor, right?

This man was an amazing inspiration to countless people. Always spreading happiness and smiles. Being there for people in ways that no one can understand. The power of a good laugh to those who really need it, that's something truly amazing. He has - and will continue to forever - help more people than even he could ever imagine.

To find out that he was depressed, and has passed due to suicide is what really shook me up. To think of a man that had been surrounded by happy, funny and inspirational movies his whole life is a guy that's obviously happy, right?

Being surrounded by happiness does not make a person happy. Even acting happy can be pointless if someone is really hurting. Depression is a lying, cheating, greedy bastard, and it has ruined countless lives. It's devastating when someone has the level of unhappiness, hopelessness, and feels so unloved that they feel their only option is to end it all.

So please, look around in your life. Take a moment to truly examine each and every person in your life; because some of them are hurting, even the 'happy' ones. Some of them might be in excruciating emotional pain, and they feel so hopeless, so alone, and they're close to the end of their rope. Don't take anyone's life for granted. If I've learned anything from life, it's that life is so delicate, that it can be swept away in an instant..

And please, if you're dealing with depression, feel hopeless, or just can't take it anymore, get help. People can help you. Your true friends are there for you. No matter what your reason for being sad is. No matter how small you think your problem is; it's still a problem, and it still matters. Please don't let it wrap it's nasty arms around you, break free and just talk to someone.

And if you have even one friend, or one family member, don't take them for granted. They are a human being that deals with crap just like you and me. Sometimes, your best superpower is a few kind words. Or a hug. Or just being there for them. Just don't fall into the mindset that tells you that everyone is fine. Because sometimes the ones that seem fine, and seem like they have it together, are the ones that are just hanging on by a thread.

So I ask you - BEG you - go tell everyone you know; all of your friends and family, that you care about them. Never stop telling them that. Tell them that their life means something. They are truly one of a kind, completely special and unique. Their life is important. You never know who may need to hear four very important words: I'm here for you.
